Collection represents the Rudy Vetter's life's work, including photographs, negatives, slides, and 16 mm film. Includes negatives of Vetter's best-known photographs, documenting the lynching of two African American men in Mississippi in 1937.

Biographical / Historical

M. Rudolph (Rudy) Vetter was born in Leola, Arkansas, on 30 August 1909. His father was a telegrapher and station manager for the railroad. He taught Rudy the rudiments of photography, as well as how to send and receive teletype. Vetter became a photojournalist, and was a charter member of the National Press Photographers Association. He worked for Acme News Pictures, the New York Daily News, the Commercial Appeal, the U.S. Navy, and the American Red Cross. Rudy Vetter passed away on 17 August 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
