Scope and Contents

Collection includes photographs, postcards, tintypes, negatives, and lantern slides created and collected by the Hudson family. Includes images of early Nauvoo, Illinois, a train wreck, Native Americans, and the Hudson family and friends. Dated approximately 1870-1965.

Photographs in boxes 1-4, oversize box 5, and oversize folder 9: Open for public research. Items kept in cold storage; access requires 24 hours advance notice. Negatives in folders 10-16: Open for public research. Items kept in cold storage; access requires 72 hours advance notice. Glass plates in folder 8: Condition restricted; permission to use items must be obtained from the Supervisor of Reference Services. Tintypes in box 6-7: Condition restricted; permission to use items must be obtained from the Supervisor of Reference Services.

Biographical / Historical

The Hudson family began with the marriage of Lewis L. Hudson and Clara B. Dundy on November 18, 1881 in Nauvoo, Illinois. Lewis Lincoln Hudson was born October 23, 1860 in Nauvoo, Illinois to Thomas and Catherine Hudson and Clara Belle Dundy was born June 21, 1862 in Nauvoo, Illinois to George and Therese Dundy. Lewis Hudson ran a grocery in Nauvoo. They had eight children: George T. E. Hudson, Florance Hudson, Mark L. Hudson, Nora Otterson, Jessie Grace Hudson, Hazel Tedford, Leota Marguerite Hudson, and Therese Hudson.
