Scope and Contents

Collection includes photographs and corresponding nitrate and glass plate negatives, taken by Alma B. Wright, of sculptures, paintings, wrestlers, boxers, and temples. Some portraits are also included. Dated approximately 1900-1959.

Photographs in folder 1: Open for public research. Items kept in cold storage; access requires 24 hours advance notice. Negatives in folder 2: Open for public research. Items kept in cold storage; access requires 72 hours advance notice. Glass plates in folders 3-5: Condition restricted; permission to use items must be obtained from the Supervisor of Reference Services.

Biographical / Historical

Alma Brockerman Wright was born November 22, 1875 in Salt Lake City, Utah territory, to Abraham Reister Wright Jr. and Lucy Wardrop Wright. He married Alice May Hooper on November 30, 1899 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had three children: Alma Vincent Wright, William Reister Wright, and Cecil Hooper Wright. He studied art at L.D.S. College and the University of Utah in the 1890s before taking a teaching position at Brigham Young College in Logan, Utah in 1899. He traveled to France in 1902, where he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Academy Colarossi in Paris. He spent the next few years between Utah and France, alternating between a few years of study in France and a few years teaching in Utah at institutions including L.D.S. College and the University of Utah. He left Utah for the last time in 1938 and spent the remainder of his life in France. He died in France on December 5, 1952.
