Biographical/Historical note

John William Crook was born in Provo, Utah in April 1858 but raised in Heber, Utah. He married Sarah Boyd and lived in Heber, Utah, working on farming and irrigation until his death in 1950. John Crook was the first historian of the Heber, Utah area.

Handwritten diary and account book of the Heber Canal Company written by John Crook from 1886 to 1903.

Scope and Contents note

Handwritten diary and account book of the Heber Canal Company in Utah. Crook wrote a brief autobiography, including the names of the original settlers of Heber City. He described both the public schools and Mormon Sunday Schools in Heber City during the 1860s and 1870s and gave the names of teachers and students. Crook also presents the names of students attending the Brigham Young Academy of Provo, Utah from 1879 to 1881. In addition, the diary covers events of Crook's life from 1886 to 1903.
