Soft black leather cover folds around the pages bound within it, with a triangular flap which overlaps the front cover. Labeled "Book 10" on front cover. Includes 124 numbered pages, some misnumbered and renumbered. Last three pages (one numbered 123, the other two unnumbered) blank. Paper unlined, faded to a light brown. Written with black ink, faded to brown in places.

Diary written by Huntington between July 1848 and April 1849. Entries describe his arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, the winter in the West, and his return back in the United States. Includes descriptions from his travels, including references to Fort Laramie, Deer River, Independence Rock, Fort Bridger, Green River, Tar Springs, and the Salt Lake Valley. Also includes references to Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, Zina and Presendia Huntington, and Joseph Smith. Also includes reflections on the origins of Indians and the California gold mines.
