Collection of daily deposits, CPO, telephone bills, travel advance/ reimbursements, registration aide records, automobile expenses, purchase order-off campus, invoice, releases of accountability, fee and honorarium schedules, seminary and institute tuition vouchers, Mexico caravan correspondence, CE-1 and CE-2, older department accounting system, grants and funding, old financial forms, dishonored checks, and computer sheet charges.

Restricted. Closed for 50 years from the date of creation of the records, and thereafter open to the public in accordance with the L. Tom Perry Special Collections Restriction Policy. Requests to access restricted materials in the University Archives should be submitted to the University Archivist.

Administrative History

From the Collection: The Department of Special Courses and Conferences was an administrative and teaching unit at Brigham Young University.

The department was established in 1966 as part of the university's Division of Continuing Education, and was charged with providing courses and programs for on-campus and distance students, as well as the general public. Department chairmen included Thomas A. James (1966-1970), Sterling R. Church (1972-1973), and Phillip D. Harris (1973-1979). In 1979 the department was reorganized as the Department of Conferences and Workshops.

From the Collection: The Department of Conferences and Workshops is an administrative and teaching unit at Brigham Young University.

The department was previously known as the Department of Special Courses and Conferences, and took its current name in 1979. It is charged with offering and supporting credit-bearing and non-credit courses and programs for on-campus and distance students, as well as the general public. Directors have included Bert Gividen (1981-1989), R. Dwight Laws (1989-1994), Steven W. Taggart (1994-2013), and Robert Holcombe (2013- )).
