Collection of legends about appearances and manifestations of supernatural beings and revenants, 1958-2002
Identifier: FA 2 Series 1
Contains fieldwork reports on legends of visitation by God, Mary, angels, deathless or resurrected saints, dead relatives, other dead (both benign and malign), the Devil, Cain, and demons. Some items, particularly the reports of visits from dead relatives, span the boundary between family history and folklore; they have identifiable creators and often report complete, short chains of transmission. Items were collected by students in folklore classes at Brigham Young University, Utah State University, and the University of Utah from 1960 to 2007. Most of the items are typewritten, but a few of the older items are handwritten. Many of the items contain a description of how, when, and where they were collected as well as explanations of social and cultural contexts.
- Other: 1958-2002
