Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed letter, dated 21 Sept. 1849, and addressed to N. F. More, possibly Nathaniel Fish More (1782-1872). Anthon expresses an opinion of a few lines of Latin poetry which are copied onto the letter.

Also included is a newspaper clipping of a brief biography of Anthon and an engraved portrait of him.

Biographical / Historical

Professor of Greek at Columbia College. Anthon was involved in a controversy about the authenticity of the script of the Book of Mormon when Martin Harris got him to examine copies of some of the characters.
