Scope and Contents
Contains LeRoy's personal papers: journals and desk calendars; early life memorabilia and school papers (mostly university); personal and professional correspondence, including greeting cards; professional files, including research and manuscript files for Hafen's books and other writings (master's and doctoral theses in published form, Western America, 4 different Colorado histories, the Far West and the Rockies series, the Mountain Men and the Fur Trade series, Joyous Journey, and various family books); correspondence with publishers (Arthur H. Clark Co. and others), and minor works (chapters and articles, book reviews, addresses, etc.); teaching files from the University of Colorado, University of Glasgow, BYU, and other colleges; research materials, including peers' historical works, primary source material (photostats and copies, microfilm, transcripts, etc.) and notes; files on consulting work in Ute-Arapahoe matters; society papers and periodicals (Utah and Colorado State Historical societies, Mormon and Western History associations, Westerners, etc., as well as other historical, academic, civic, social, religious, etc.); family papers, including family group sheets and correspondence; and general oversize materials (historical art & memorabilia, poetry, society material, etc.).

Biographical History
LeRoy R. Hafen (1893-1985) was the director of the Colorado State Historical Society and professor of history at Brigham Young University.
