Rhoads family photographs, approximately 1850-1910
Scope and Contents
The Rhoads and Morley photograph collection contains over 14,000 photographs created by the Morley and Rhoads families. The Sylvanus G. Morley photographs contain photographs of the buildings, architecture, murals, and excavations of Mayan ruins in Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. The range of photograph dates is narrow, approximately 1920 to 1935. The Rhoads family photographs are a much larger collection and wider range of dates, from approximately 1890 to 1940. It includes family and extended family portraits, photographs of the family on road trips, and daily life scenes such as school, picnics, and pets. Includes photo albums and duplicate photographs of those in the albums.

Biographical History
Franklin Koons Rhoads was born October 23, 1867 in Pekin, Illinois to Samuel Rhoads and Anna Koons. He married Fannie Cook on April 27, 1892, and they had two children, Dorothy Mary and Frances Louella. The family lived in Illinois for many years, near other family members. Franklin died March 27, 1943 in Rock Island, Illinois. Franklin was an amateur photographer, and took hundreds of photographs on family trips and other events. Frances also took many photos during her time at college, ca. 1915-1920. Each box is organized in a loosely chronological order.
