Scope and Contents
Typewritten journal includes nearly daily entries from September 1 to December 31, 1915. Begins with Talmage in Salt Lake City, Utah, and ends with him in Washington, DC. Most entries are of meetings, lectures, funerals, and other duties pertaining to his calling as an Apostle, particularly attending stake conferences, and his position as director of Deseret Museum. Mentions ordinations and setting apart of bishops, missionaries, and others in priesthood callings. Includes entries on trip to California to inspect a fossil bed in La Brea, as well as a trip to the Eastern States to investigate the sentiment of the people there towards Mormonism. Includes entries on another trip east to attend a scientific conference in Washington, DC. Includes newspaper clippings and programs related to Talmage, including the first review of his book "Jesus the Christ" and reports of its sales, as well as addresses he gave. Dated September-December 1915.

Originals restricted. Digital copy of the first twelve of thirty volumes of Talmage's personal journals (1879-1911) available online. Unedited typescripts and microfilm of all thirty volumes also available.

The literary rights to the Talmage collection rest with the Harold B. Lee Library and the Talmage family. Permission to publish material from the James E. Talmage collection must be obtained from the Supervisor of Reference Services at specialcollections@byu.edu.
