Scope and Contents
Handwritten journal includes nearly daily entries from March 29, 1892 to March 7, 1893. Begins in San Francisco, California, where Talmage was accompanying Charles R. Savage on a trip to take photographs of the area. Primarily consists of descriptions of travels throughout Utah on church and business matters. Includes descriptions of Talmage's appointment by the First Presidency to write a work on theology to be used in instruction at church school's. The volume concludes with Talmage's accepting a part-time position at the University of Utah. Dated 1892-1893.

Originals restricted. Digital copy of the first twelve of thirty volumes of Talmage's personal journals (1879-1911) available online. Unedited typescripts and microfilm of all thirty volumes also available.
Conditions Governing Use
The literary rights to the Talmage collection rest with the Harold B. Lee Library and the Talmage family. Permission to publish material from the James E. Talmage collection must be obtained from the Supervisor of Reference Services at specialcollections@byu.edu.
