Scope and Contents

Contains several bound and unbound folders of legal documents pertaining to Joanna Wojciechowicz and her family members. Many documents pertain to her involvement in the Solidarity movement including her conviction for involvement in anti-Communist demonstrations and the warrant for her arrest and internment. Other documents of note include a letter awarding Wojciechowicz the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity, a record of her completion of studies from Politechnika in Gdansk, and copies of her identification cards. Also included in the series are legal documents which give her son the right to live in her home in Poland, a record transfering power of attorney, and a birth record kept by the Catholic Church written in Russian. Also contains a KGB dossier on Joanna. Dates range from 1881 to 2016.

Biographical History

From the Collection:

Joanna Wojciechowicz was born in 1944. She was an architecht in Gdansk, Poland for ten years. She was heavily involved in the opposition movement against the Communist government. Her son was a member of the Young Poland movement and both of them became contributors to the Solidarity movement as it developed. She was present in the shipyard during the strike in 1980, and was imprisoned for her involvement. After moving to Washington state, Joanna was heavily involved in several documentaries which commemorate the efforts of the Solidarity movement, including Women in Solidarity.
