Biographical / Historical

James Vincent D'Arc was born in Los Angeles, California on August 7, 1950. In the early 1970s, D'Arc was accepted into Brigham Young University, where he majored in history. A film appreciation class taught by Dr. Charles M. Metten in 1973 motivated D’Arc to receive a PhD in film history from BYU in 1986. During his time as a student, he was also hired in what was then called the "Archives and Manuscripts Division” at BYU, where he began gathering film-related materials for the Archives. During 1990 D'Arc was also employed as a professor of film in BYU's Theatre and Media Arts College in addition to his position as a curator. James D'Arc retired from BYU in August 2017.

Biographical / Historical

Albert K. Bender was born June 16, 1921, in Duryea, Pennsylvania. He enrolled in the United States Army Air Corps in 1942, and served as a dental technician, dental clerk, and worked for the Army newspaper. He married Betty Rose on October 18, 1954. In 1952, he founded the International Flying Saucer Bureau, which he shut down in 1953. He founded the Max Steiner Music Society in 1965. Albert K. Bender died March 29, 2016.

Biographical / Historical

Janet B. Bradford was born May 19, 1956, in Montpelier, Idaho. She received an associate degree in piano pedagogy from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho in 1976. In 1978, she received a B.A. in music theory from Brigham Young University. She also attended graduate classes in musicology from 1980 to 1985. Janet received a master's in library and information science from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in 1986. She began working for the Brigham Young University Harold B. Lee library in 1984. She worked as a catalog librarian for music and dance, as the curator of Latter-day Saints popular music, and as an interim Associate University Librarian for Metadata and Information Technology from 2020 to 2022. Janet presented a devotional to the BYU campus in 2011, titled, "Carry On." Janet was active in the Music Library Association, Utah Library Association, and a co-writer of an article on film composer Max Steiner published in Oxford Music Online. Janet retired from the BYU library in 2022.

Janet was a member of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square from 2009 to 2017. As of 2018, she is a member of the Utah Baroque Ensemble, a local community choir in Utah Valley.
