Scope and Contents

Journal kept by John Crook. Contains records related to the Lake Creek Coal Mining Company, founded in 1878 and in which Crook was president, including a list of stockholders (page 2 and 9) and a financial accounting for various stockholders or employees of the mine company, 1878 (page 5-22). Also includes a life history/journal of John Crook from his birth in 1831 to 1875 (page 23-57), including an account of his travels from England to Utah in 1851 (page 25, 100-107); "Journal of labor," an account of work and travels, 1876-1882 (page 58-63 and 78-95); accounts of travel from 1896-1907 (page 64-77); "My fathers diary in leaving Liverpool, Eng. for the United States and Destination Utah," 1850-1853 (page 96-99); and, a financial accounting for a saw mill, 1881-1884.
