General
In this journal, Harriet writes about the birth of Elisha Kent Kane, Blanche and Evan’s son ( 18 March 1894). Two weeks later ( 31 March), she records a family tragedy with Blanche’s death. In her usual style, Harriet simply wrote on that day, “Blanche died of Acute Brights disease at 8 o’clock this evening.” Successive entries contain references to caring for the new baby. Harriet wrote about attending a Bucktail Reunion on 30 August, and various church and Woman’s Christian Temperance Union activities.
