Scope and Contents

Materials contain photographs, slides, and photograph albums collected by various members of the Stark family. These include professional individual and family photographs. These also include candid photographs of friends and family and photographs and slides taken while traveling. There are also photocopies of many of these photographs. Materials dated approximately 1880-2014, with the bulk from approximately 1880-1986.

Biographical / Historical

The Stark family were Mormon farmers in Spanish Fork, Utah. Moroni Stark (1869-1934) was the son of Danish immigrants, Soren Stark (1829-1881) and his wife Anna Sophia Petersen Stark (1838-1912). He worked as a farmer and served as a missionary to Denmark from 1915 to 1917. He and his wife, Sarah Hanson Stark (1871-1953), had five children: Anna Elizabeth Stark (1897-1989), Henry M. Stark (1900-1988), Grant Stark (1902-1990), Mark Stark (1904-1968), and Eleanor S. Edman (1906-1990). Anna Elizabeth Stark was a teacher and school supervisor in Utah. Henry M. Stark was a chemist and served a mission to California from 1919 to 1921. Grant Stark was a farmer and served a mission to New Zealand from 1926 to 1928. Mark Stark was a farmer and served a mission to the East Central States from 1929 to 1930. Eleanor S. Edman was a teacher and wife and mother.

Biographical / Historical

Anna Elizabeth Stark (1897-1989) was a teacher and school supervisor in Utah. Anna Elizabeth Stark was born November 30, 1897 in Mammoth, Utah to Moroni Pedersen Stark and Sarah Christina Hanson Stark. She graduated with a normal teaching certificate and a degree in education administration from Brigham Young University. She taught elementary school in Nebo School district for 6 years, directed teacher training at Weber College for 10 years, and then worked as an elementary district supervisor until she retired in 1964. Anna Elizabeth Stark was also a prominent member of the Business and Professional Women organization (BPW). She served as the BPW president for the state of Utah in the early 1960s. Anna Elizabeth Stark died December 20, 1989 in Leland, Utah.

Grant Stark (1902-1990) was a farmer and rancher. Grant Stark was born Grant Soren Stark on August 27, 1902 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Moroni Stark and Sarah Hanson Stark. He served a mission to New Zealand for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1926 to 1928. On June 24, 1935, he married Edna Charlotte Shelley in Utah. They divorced by 1960. He worked throughout his life as a farmer and rancher. Grant Stark died February 21, 1990 in Spanish Fork, Utah.

Moroni Stark (1869-1934) was a farmer. Moroni Stark was born on October 11, 1869 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Soren Pedersen Stark and Ane Pedersen Stark. He served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: in the Northwestern States mission from 1899 to 1901; in the Scandinavian mission from 1915 to 1917; and in California from January to June 1934. When he was not serving on missions, Moroni Stark worked as a farmer in Spanish Fork. He married Sarah Hanson on February 6, 1897. They had five children: Anna Elizabeth Stark, Henry M. Stark, Grant Stark, Mark Stark, and Eleanor S. Edman. Moroni Stark died December 1, 1934.
