Biographical / Historical
E. Gene Shumway (1925- ) is a social worker and university professor in Utah.
E. Gene Shumway (1925- ) was born in Arizona on August 17, 1925, to Elijah G. Shumway and Sarah Elizabeth Willis. He joined the U.S. Navy and trained as a pilot during World War II. After the war he studied sociology at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, and went on to work as a social worker and later a university professor. He married Carolyn Blair Shumway on August 18, 1950, and after her death married Argie Shumway. He is the brother of Marjorie and Don L. Shumway.
Biographical / Historical
Don L. Shumway (1920-1944) served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was killed in action in the Battle of the Bulge.
Don L. Shumway was born in Mesa, Arizona, on October 12, 1920, to Elijah Gill Shumway and Sarah Elizabeth Willis. He attended one year of college and served as a clergyman before enlisting. He was deployed in Germany as a private in the U.S. Army when he was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge in Luxembourg on December 12, 1944. He was buried in the U.S. military cemetery in Henri-Chapelle, Belgium, and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
