Two items concerning biographical statements (xerox copies). Literary rights rest with the respective publisher. Letter: September 26, 1949, Orem, Utah, from Major J. W. Gillman to W. C. Orem in SLC on the occasion of the dedication of the "Velvet Highway" in Orem, enclosing a copy of the speech Gillman delivered at the dedication. Letter: June 1944, Long Beach, California, from Orem's wife Mable to him in SLC 1 item. Literary rights on all above letters remain with the Orem family.

Biographical History
Walter Claude Orem was a Utah businessman involved in the railroads. Mr. Orem was born in Ray County, Missouri, 23 May 1873, the son of A. J. Orem and Martha A. Leabo. His father, who was formerly a school teacher and later a merchant, and his mother were both of English ancestry. Mr. Orem went to Salt Lake City in 1890. Later he attained success in copper and coal mining, with interests in Utah and Nevada. He was president of the Nevada Copper Belt Railroad and treasurer and director of the Castle Valley Railroad Company.
