Biographical / Historical

Joseph Ceo (born 1933) is a prominent viola d'amore player who received his doctorate in viola d'amore performance and has been on the music faculty at numerous Universities throughout the U.S.

Joseph Ceo, more commonly known as Joe Ceo, was born in 1933 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He studied the viola d’amore with Renzo Sabatini in Italy as a Fulbright scholar. He received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in viola d’amore performance. Ceo has been on the music faculties of Kentucky University, Rhode Island College, Berea College, Centre College, and Rhode Island University.
