Scope and Contents

Materials contain the memoir of Albert Lamoin Olsen regarding his service as a surgeon and camp physician in the U.S. Army for the Civilian Conservation Corps during World War II, beginning in 1933. Talks about receiving his commission as First Lieutenant and being assigned to the Army as a surgeon in the Civilian Conservation Corps, moving to Orderville, Utah, and treating patients from his home. Recalls removing a birthmark from the face of a very grateful young man, making friends with his neighbors and adapting to his new living situation in Escalante, Utah. Also talks about moving to California, Indiana, and Ohio, where he worked with German and Italian Prisoners of War. His son, Albert Lamoin Olsen, Jr., recalls the bombing of Pearl Harbor and his father’s service at an induction center at Fort Perry, Ohio and his mother's service as a nurse at Fort Clinton. Also includes two scanned pictures of Bessie Lee and Albert. Dated before 2001.
