Materials contain a transcribed interview with Susan Herron regarding her service as a nurse in the U.S. Air Force during the Gulf War, Operation Restore Hope, and the Iraq War from December 1988. Interview was conducted as part of the Nurses at War Project. Talks about her decision to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves and her responsibility as a flight nurse. Talks about flying from Germany to Kuwait to pick up wounded soldiers and flying them back to Germany for medical care. Discusses her duties onboard the plane administering to the wounded. Also details her deployment to Somalia during Operation Restore Hope and the humanitarian effort there. Discusses difficulties with church callings and inactivity. Talks about the support she received through church and family. Discusses the interaction she had with other branches of the military. Dated 2004.
