Note on item: "Custer Battlefield Monument. Visitor center in background. The present battle monument was cut from Vermont granite and shipped by rail to Bismarck, Dakota, the end of the railroad, and by steamboat to Fort Custer, Montana, thence by sled and oxen to the site where it was erected in 1886. Courtesy Harold Schindler."
