biographical statement

Valborg Rasmussen Wheelwright (1875-1957) was the mother of Lorin F. Wheelwright and spent many years serving in her church and community in Utah.

Valborg Henrietta Louise Rasmussen Wheelwright was born June 3, 1875 in Copenhagen, Denmark to William Godfred Matinus and Henriette Louise Lever Rasmussen. She immigrated to the United States in 1888 with Elder Hansen, the missionary who taught and baptized her into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived with Elder Hansen and his family for a few years in Utah before her mother joined her. The two of them found their own place in the Salt Lake area, and there she worked numerous jobs. On November 28, 1900 she married David R. Wheelwright in the Salt Lake Temple. They had had four sons: Russell Edwin, David Sterling, Lorin Farrar, and Max. For three months in 1905 she served with her husband as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Danish mission. She graduated as the oldest member of her class from the University of Utah on June 5, 1934 with a bachelor degree in social science. She died May 6, 1957.
