Biographical History

Joseph W. Booth (1866-1928) was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and mission president in the Turkish Mission.

Joseph W. Booth was born August 14, 1866, in Alpine, Utah. He was the son of Richard T. Booth and Elsie Edge, and was the ninth of ten children. At the age of 21 he attended Brigham Young Academy in Provo, Utah, and graduated nine years later in 1896, with a major in pedagogy. He married Mary Rebbecca "Reba" Moyle in 1890, at the Logan Utah Temple. He served his first mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Turkey mission, which included Turkey, Syria, Armenia, and other countries in the Middle East from 1898 to 1902, returning in 1903 with his wife. From 1904 to 1909, he served as the mission president in Turkey. He was called again to be mission president in Turkey in 1921, with his wife joining him in 1924. Joseph Wilford Booth died on December 5, 1928, in Aleppo, Syria, while still serving as mission president. A monument was dedicated in 1933 by President John A. Widtsoe of the first presidency in Armenia.
