The first part contains genealogical records for the family of John H. Hayes, spanning the dates 1604-1958. The second part is John H Hayes' autobiography and covers his birth until the year 1924. The third part is entitled, "Bradford Lane History," which was written by John Stoker Davis, who was nephew of Hayes’ wife, Ruth Elizabeth Davis.

Hayes migrated to Utah in 1862 and lived in Spanish Fork, Utah, during the Black Hawk War with the Ute Indians. Hayes was a Mormon polygamist, served on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England, and lived in numerous places and had numerous occupations in Utah.
