Biography

J. Stanley Anderson (1866-1950) was an early Utah and Idaho photographer, and brother of George Edward Anderson.

J. Stanley Anderson was born Jedediah Stanley Anderson on September 3, 1866 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George A. Anderson Sr. and Mary Ann Thorne. He married Mary Emily Wilderburg on November 28, 1895 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had 6 children together. He moved to Idaho in 1901, where he stayed and started his photography business, the Anderson Photo Company. He remained in Idaho until his retirement in 1925. His photographs mainly depict scenes and landscapes from Utah and Idaho. Notably, his brother George Edward Anderson was also a photographer. J. Stanley Anderson died in Preston, Idaho on May 9, 1950. He was later buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Scope and Contents

Correspondence, certificates, journals, newespaper articles, pamphlets, magazines, notes, and personal items. The correspondence is between Anderson , his family, friends, and leaders of the Mormon Church. Many of the items deal with personal and family matters. The diaries are in six volumes and include genealogical items. The newspaper clippings relate to Anderson and his family.
