Biography

Verl Allman (1917-2008) was a biology teacher at Brigham Young University High School and Brigham Young University.

Verl Allman was born on May 12, 1917 in Mammoth, Utah, to parents Samuel Allman and Elizabeth H. Hochstrasser. During World War II, he worked in San Diego at an aircraft factory. He went on to marry Lula Marchant on August 31, 1950, in the Logan, Utah Temple. Together they had at least two children, and served a mission from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Uruguay in 1953. Allman obtained both bachelor's and master's degrees from Brigham Young University in Botany and Zoology. He worked at Brighman Young University High School from 1950-1968 as a biology teacher. In 1968, he was selected as Outstanding Biology Teacher by the National Association of Biology Teachers. Also in that year, he joined the faculty of the general college at Brigham Young University, eventually moving to the zoology department, where he worked from 1971 to 1982. Allman passed away October 11, 2008 in Orem, Utah.
