Biographical History

Ezra C. Dalby (1869-1934) was a teacher, educational administrator, and lawyer in Idaho and Utah.

Ezra Christiansen was born on March 24, 1869 in Ephraim, Utah to Christian Christiansen and Ana Marie Jensen. He attended school at the Sanpete Stake Academy in Ephraim, and later studied at the University of Utah and the University of Chicago. After graduation he worked as a school principal in Manti, beginning in 1892. In 1894 he married Rosella Anderson, and they had seven children. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he also served as a missionary to Missouri from 1896 to 1898.

In 1901 he moved his family to Rexburg, Idaho where he worked as president of the Bannock Stake/Ricks Academy. During his time in Rexburg he legally changed his surname to Dalby to avoid confusion with other Christiansen families. In 1914 he resigned from the academy, and became the principal of Teton High School in nearby Driggs, Idaho. Four years later he began working as a lawyer, and studied law at the La Salle Extension University.

In 1929 he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he took a position as a teacher and school principal. Dalby died in Salt Lake on January 1, 1934.
