Biographical History
Michael H. Chandler (approximately 1798-1866) is an Ireland-native who immigrated to the United States in 1828. While there, he acquired 11 mummies and other Egyptian Antiquities which he displayed throughout Pennsylvania and later sold to Joseph Smith, Jr., founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Michael H. Chandler was born in Ireland in approximately 1798. After marrying his wife Frances F. Ludlow in the nation, eventually the family relocated to the United States in 1828, deciding to settle in Ohio in 1829. In 1833, the family relocated to Philadelphia and, after a visit to New York, he acquired 11 mummies and other Egyptian antiquities. With these, he displayed them in Philadelphia, Cleveland, and later Kirtland, OH in 1835. While displaying his antiquities in Kirtland, he eventually sold his antiquities to Joseph Smith, Jr, the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After selling his antiquities, he later purchased property in Parkman, Ohio and lived there until his death in 1866.
