Biographical History
Willard H. Gardner (1925-2018) was an administrator and politician in Utah.
Willard Hale Gardner was born on December 22, 1925 in Logan, Utah to Willard Gardner and Viola Hale. Raised in Logan, he left to serve as a naval officer candidate during World War II. After the war he returned home and completed a bachelor's degree in physics from the Utah State Agricultural College. He then continued his education at the University of Utah before completing a master's degree from Brigham Young University.
While at BYU he met his wife, DeAnn Rich. They eventually had six children.
Gardner worked with as a computer administrator at Brigham Young University, where he spent much of his career. He served as director of Computer Services (1981-1985) and of Information Systems Services (1985-1990). He retired from the university in 1993.
He was also active in his community. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gardner served as a bishop and as a senior missionary. He also served as a member of the Utah Legislature for twelve years, and on various government committees.
Gardner passed away on March 18, 2018 in Provo, Utah.
