Biographical History

Lucile O. Petty (1904-1996) was an educational administrator in Utah.

Lucile Owen was born on October 6, 1904 in Wellsville, Utah to Evan R. Owen and Lizzie Benson. She attended the Utah State Agricultural College, and after graduation taught physical education at Weber College. Between 1934 and 1939, she was the dean of women at the college. During the 1940s and 1950s she served in a variety of elected positions related to education in Utah, including as a member of the Utah State School Board Association, the Ogden Board of Education, and the Utah State University Board of Trustees. From 1969 to 1971 she worked as the dean of women at Brigham Young University.

On March 16, 1927 she married Harold J. Clark, and they had two daughters. The couple later divorced, after which she married Russell B. Petty on December 23, 1937. This marriage produced three children.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as a missionary in Kane, Pennsylvania and in Liberty, Missouri. She also worked as a temple worker for fifteen years.

Petty passed away on August 15, 1996 in Twin Falls, Idaho.
