Biographical History

Albert D. Swensen (1915-2001) was a chemistry professor in Utah.

Albert Donald Swensen was born on May 28, 1915, in Provo, Utah, to John C. Swensen and Margaret Ellen Davis. He was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and attended schools in Provo. He was admitted to Brigham Young University, and met his wife, Jennie Romney, while a student. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 15, 1937.

After graduation from BYU, Swensen pursued a Ph.D. in Chemistry at Louisiana State University, which he received in 1941. He then worked at the Naval Research Laboratory during World War II. After the war, he took a position on the Chemistry faculty at BYU and remained at the university until his retirement in 1980.

After Jennie's death, Swensen married Marjorie Seegmiller in the Salt Lake Temple on July 1, 1983. They later served a mission for the Church to Vienna, Austria, from 1984 to 1985.

Swensen died in Provo, Utah, on October 6, 2001.
