William Smith papers, 1869-1911 (b. April 12, 1824 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England; parents William Smith and Mary Etchells; father died when he was a young boy, so he was raised by his mother; baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 8, 1840; served a partial LDS mission in England in approximately 1852; first wife Ann Ormandy on May 12, 1845 in Cheshire, England; two children before her death on September 17, 1850; married his second wife, Mary Hibbert on June 27, 1852 and they had nine children together; In 1856, Smith immigrated to America with his family and his mother; they arrived in St. Louis, Missouri and later trekked west to be with the Saints in the Salt Lake Valley; Salt Lake, Smith worked as a brick maker; died September 10, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah)

Materials include William Smith's account book, life history, journal, and newspaper clippings. The journal contains Smith's accounting notes, his life history, and some newspaper clippings glued to the inside front cover. Seven loose or unattached newspaper clippings document natural disasters, death, and theological discussions are also a part of the collection. Dated 1869-1911.
