Biographical History

Lowell L. Bennion (1908-1996) was an author, humanitarian, and sociologist in Utah.

Lowel Lindsay Bennion was born on July 26, 1908 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Milton Bennion and Cora Lindsay. Lowell graduated from the University of Utah in 1928 and shortly after he married Lela Merle Colton on September 18, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Right after getting married he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Swiss-German Mission. Lowell studied at the University of Strasbourg and received his Ph.D. in sociology in 1933. In Utah, Lowell founded the Teton Valley Boys Ranch, the first foodbank and homeless shelter in Utah, and the Institute of Religion at the University of Utah. He also served as a bishop in the Church. Lowell died on February 21, 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
