Biography

Kimball Young (1893-1972) was a sociologist, historian, educator, and author.

Kimball Young was born October 26, 1893 in Provo, Utah Territory to Oscar Brigham Young and Annie Marie Roseberry Young. He attended Brigham Young University and then got a Ph.D. from Stanford University. He taught social psychology at various universities throughout his career. He is credited as the first trained sociologist to perform a serious study of the effects of polygamy. He married Myra Magdalene Anderson on September 6, 1917 in Salt Lake City. They later divorced and he married Lillian Claire Doster on April 2, 1940. Kimball died September 1, 1972.

Also include extract of anti-Mormon articles from the Salt Lake Review, 1871-1872, compiled 1959.

Photocopies of research notes and drafts of chapters of the book "Isn't One Wife Enough?" The originals are housed in the Garett Theological Seminary Library. This work is considered to be the first serious study of Mormon polygamy done by a trained sociologist. In the published version of the book, Young changed the names of the characters he wrote about. But in his notes the correct names are available.
