Biography

Caroline Abigail Mayhew Chipman (1842-1924) was a 19th century resident of Utah.

Caroline Abigail Mayhew Chipman was born in Edinburgh, Indiana, to Lydia and Elijah Mayhew on December 18, 1842. She accompanied her parents in their migration to Utah in 1853 at the age of ten. She married Stephen Washburn Chipman on May 30, 1868 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had five children, four of whom survived to adulthood. Her son, Otto Chipman, died while serving a mission in New Zealand at the age of 21 for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Caroline died on November 30, 1924, at age 83 in American Fork, Utah.

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typed biography of Caroline M. Chipman. Chipman was born in Indiana in 1842. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and migrated to Utah in 1853 where she settled in Pleasant Grove. She married Washburn Chipman in 1868 and died in 1924.

Handwritten letters sent to and from Farnsworth, Mayhew, and Chipman families. Also include wedding and reunion invitations and other ephemera. The majority of the letters are to Caroline Abigail Mayhew Chipman. Other relatives include Lydia Farnsworth Mayhew, Otto Lyman Mayhew, Walter Franklin Mayhew, Martha Hoggard Chipman, Frederick Moroni Houston, Lydia Lucinda Chipman, Fredrick Vernon Houston, and John Curtis Houston.
