Biographical History
David L. Evans (1925-2010) was an English professor in Utah.
David Louis Evans was born on June 13, 1925 in Billings, Montana, the third child of Thomas and Lulu Evans. He spent his childhood in Toledo, Ohio and Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated early from high school during World War II to enlist in the military, and served in Patton's Army as a battalion scout, reconnoitering across enemy lines in France with a radio strapped onto his back. He was seriously wounded in a shelling near Nantes toward the end of the war, for which he received the Purple Heart. David married Ramona Bergeson, who was then a high school English teacher, in the Salt Lake temple in 1952. They had two children. After completing graduate work at the University of Utah, he joined the English Department faculty at Brigham Young University, where he became a Professor. He collaborated for many years with Profs. Eugene England and John Gardner on the very popular honors colloquium, and was honored with the Karl G. Maeser Award in 1989. David retired reluctantly in 1993 due to his increasing difficulties with mobility and the health problems of his dear wife, Ramona, to whom he gave round-the-clock devoted care until her passing in 2004. He was the author of a few books, including Thunder and Light: Attempts to Synthesize Science and Religion in the Poetry of Clinton F. Larson. He died April 15, 2010.
