Charles Henry Bement (1847-1903) crossed the plains to Utah with the Henry W. Miller Company.

Charles Henry Bement was born to Bingham B. Bement and Melissa Russell on November 22, 1847, in New Hampshire. At the age of four, he crossed the plains to Utah with the Henry. W. Miller Company. He arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in 1852. He married Margaret Annie Prows and died on February 20, 1903, in Kanosh, Utah.

Scope and Contents Twelve letters written between Charles and his half-sister Alice. Also contains one letter from Maria Josephine Hill Searle to Sarah Julia Hill Bement, Alice's mother. Most of the letters are written by Charles in Kanosh, Utah, and sent to Alice in Salt Lake. However, two of the letters were written by Charles while he was on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Illinois. The letters deal primarily with family and local matters. Some letters are fairly detailed...
