Biographical History

Alma W. King (1902-1999) was a religious educator and academic administrator in Utah.

Alma W. King was born on October 26, 1902 in Antimony, Utah to William King and Alevia Isadora Wallace. Raised near Garland, Utah as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he later served a mission to the Hawaiian Islands between 1923 and 1926. After his return he studied at Brigham Young University (BYU), graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1930. On September 3, 1930 he married Lucille Olson in the Salt Lake Temple.

After graduation King taught seminary at Bear River High School (1930-1956). During this time he continued his studying at BYU, and earned a master's degree in Religious Education in 1936. He also took courses at the University of Chicago between 1939 and 1940. In 1956, King began working at BYU as a student adviser in Student Personnel Services. He remained at the university until 1972.
