Biographical History
B. W. Kilburn (1827-1909) was an American landscape, stereoscopic-view photographer and publisher.
Benjamin West Kilburn was born December 10, 1827 in Littleton, New Hampshire to Josiah and Emily Kilburn. He took photographs and stereo-views of landscapes at the end of the nineteenth century in the United States and Canada. He and his brother, Edward Kilburn, operated a studio in the McCoy Block in Littleton and by 1868 they moved to a larger building at the Chutter Block location on Main Street. After the Boston Fire of November 1872, a new factory was built on Cottage Street. Young salesmen carried Kilburn views onto the trains and south to a wider audience. They were for a time considered the most extensive manufacturer of stereoscopic views. Kilburn died January 15, 1909 in Littleton, New Hampshire.

Images include the Semi-Centennial Utah Jubilee in 1897, London, England, the Columbian Exposition in 1893, the Panama Canal, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, India, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Jerusalem, France, New York, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, California, Ohio, and Colorado. There are also many images of people, including a set of four entitled "The Halloween Party."
