Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letters all written in May, June, and July of 1876 and sent from Chicago, Illinois. Six of the items were written to Wesley Merritt who was with the 9th cavalry and later commanded the 5th cavalry. Sheridan gives orders and suggestions relating to the campaign against the Indians.
