Biographical History

H. B. Vanfleet (born 1931) is a physics professor and university administrator in Utah.

Howard Bay Vanfleet was born on June 5, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married in twice, to Yvonne Dunaway and to Helen Haacke, and had seven children. Vanfleet studied at Brigham Young University, earning a bachelor's of science in 1955. He then completed a Ph.D. in physics at the University of Utah in 1961.

Vanfleet joined the faculty at Brigham Young University in 1960, and served as department chair from 1979 to 1988. His areas of research included ultra-high pressure solid state physics, high temperature superconductors, and other phenomena. In addition to his teaching, he also worked on grant projects for the United States Air Force and Army, consulted for Codevintec Pac, Inc., and was a visiting professor at the American University in Cairo. Vanfleet retired in 1998.
