Biography

Moses Franklin Farnsworth (1834-1906) was an early member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a genealogist and historian.

Moses Franklin Farnswroth was born on February 5, 1834, to Reuben Farnsworth III and Mary Laymon. After a basic education, he worked as a book keeper and salesman in Indiana. He was one of the first pioneers to come to Utah and arrived in 1853 from Indiana. He married Elizabeth Jane Stewart on February 26, 1857, in Salt Lake City; they had 7 children and settled in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He later enrolled as a captain in the Black Hawk War. He twice served a mission in London, England--once in 1862 and again in 1868. He became a recorder for the St. George temple and later took the same role in the Manti Temple. He was an avid family historian and published a family history entitled "The Farnsworth in Memorial" and the history of Manti in a local paper. He died on February 25, 1906, in Manti, Utah.

Scope and Contents

Handwritten diaries, patriarchal blessings, and miscellaneous items. Farnsworth gives a brief autobiography before he started his first diary in 1862. His diaries cover from 1862 to 1864 and from 1868 to 1870 when he was on a mission for the Mormon Church in England. Also included are patriarchal blessings for members of the Farnsworth family.
