Collection includes diaries, letters, property records, bibles and family records related to Hyrum Smith. Includes diaries of missions taken by Hyrum, the 1834 Hyrum Smith family bible, with family record dating up to 1872, and material used by the School of the Prophets in Kirtland, Ohio. Dated 1831-1872.

Handwritten patriarchal blessing, dated 2 Feb. 1842, and given to Mary B. Wolsey. The item is written down by James Sloan, Smith's clerk. Smith tells Wolsey she has great blessings awaiting her if she is obedient to the Mormon faith.

Scope and Contents

This collection, containing a copy of a paper by Richard K. Behrens and it's appendices, has been separated into folders within a hollinger box. Each appendix is kept in it's own folder. Hyrum Smith (1800-1844) was the elder brother of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr. He was a faithful member of the Church from his baptism and served as a great missionary and church leader. He was killed, along with his brother Joseph, on 27 June 1844.

Handwritten and signed statement and dated 26 Oct. 1843. "Know all men by these presents that we Hyrum Smith, Charles Shumway, and Sidney Rigdon." They were appointed "conservator of the estate of Joel Bullard, judged insane."

Photocopy of a typewritten "pageant." The item depicts scenes in the life of Martha Smith Harris. She was the daughter of Hyrum Smith (1800-1844), the brother of the first president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joseph Smith (1805-1844).

Scope and Contents Photocopied typescript of an autobiography. In 1882 when Woods was "upwards of eighty years of age" he was interviewed for several weeks probably by Edgar R. Harlan with a stenographer present who wrote down the conversations. These materials were later condensed and pertinent portions were woven into a narrative. As a lawyer in Iowa, Woods was involved in many legal actions of that state. Woods was hired by Joseph Smith (1805-1844) to serve as his counselor when he and his brother Hyrum...
