Biography

Hugo Friedhofer (1901-1981) was an American orchestrator and film composer.

Hugo Friedhofer was born May 3, 1901. Hugo began studying the cello as a teenager and worked as a cellist for the People's Symphony Orchestra in San Francisco. After playing in theater orchestras and writing music arrangements, he moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a musician for film music recordings. He became an arranger and orchestrator of over movie scores. He became a film music composer in the 1940s, working through the 1950s and 1960s, eventually composing for television as well. Hugo died May 17, 1981, in Los Angeles, California.
