Biographical History

George B. Bailey (1833-1895) was a farmer and member of the early settlers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah.

George B. Bailey was born on Februray 15, 1833 in Bath, England to parents Joseph Brown and Ann Smith Bailey. He was baptized on May 26, 1851 in Bath, England. He immigrated to America in 1853 and moved to Salt Lake City. He worked as a farmer and was very involved with the church in the area. He lived in Millcreek, Utah with his seven wives.

Bailey died on November 4, 1895 in Millcreek, Utah. He is buried in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Scope and Contents

Holographs; typescript; printed forms (photocopy). The collection includes a journal (l p. by wife, Elizabeth) which describes life in Salt Lake Valley and related problems with the United States government in 1856-1857 and gives genealogical data on the Bailey and Young families. Also included are a letter fragment, poem by George, and 6 Latter-day Saint Church family group sheets of the George Smith Bailey and Victoria Price family.
