Biographical History

Christen Jensen (1881-1961) was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a teacher and educational administrator in Utah.

Christen Jensen was born on February 4, 1881 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Christen Jensen Sr. and Nel Sina Johnsen. He completed the Normal program at the University of Utah, and then worked as a teacher in Midvale, Riverton, and Pleasant Green, Utah. On August 17, 1904 he married Juliaette Bateman in Salt Lake City; they had two children. He continued his education at the University of Utah, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1907. He then completed a master's degree at Harvard University the following year. In 1908 he joined the faculty at Brigham Young University, and served as chair of the Department of History and Political Science between 1911 and 1949. He took a leave to complete Ph.D. at University of Chicago in 1921. He also filled a variety of leadership positions, including service as dean of College of Applied Science and dean of Graduate School (1929-1949). Jensen was an active member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, and served in the Sunday School, as a member of presidency of Utah Stake, and as Patriarch of the Provo East Stake.

Jensen died on August 17, 1961 in Provo, Utah.
