Biographical History

Edward Stevenson (1820-1897) was a Latter-day Saint General Authority in the late nineteenth century.

Edward Stevenson was born in Gibralter, United Kingdom, but moved to the United States with his family at a young age. One day, as a young man living in Michigan, he was contacted by a group of missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Joseph Smith, and joined the church. In 1834, Stevenson relocated to Church headquarters in Kirtland, Ohio, before following the Saints to Missouri, then Nauvoo, Illinois, and finally the Utah territory. Stevenson settled in Salt Lake City in 1847. He served several missions to Europe, the southern United States, and Mexico, sometimes for five years at a time. After several years of service in the Church, he was called by Wilford Woodruff in 1894 to serve in the first council of the Seventy. He died in Salt Lake City in 1897.
