Biographical History

Verlyn Dale Frost (1933-2009) was an educator and ecclesiastical leader in Arizona. He and his wife served missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Tonga and Salt Lake City, Utah.

Verlyn Dale Frost was born on July 1, 1933 to John Allen and Thelma Lewis Frost in Taylor, Arizona. He had two sisters, Elaine and Emma Lou. When he was six weeks old, his family moved to Snowflake, Arizona. Verlyn Dale attended Snowflake High School and participated in FFA, and then went to Arizona State College, where he earned his degree in Industrial Education. While at Arizona State College, Verlyn Dale Frost was involved in Lambda Delta Sigma and the R.O.T.C.

Being a member of the R.O.T.C. and earning good grades kept Frost from being drafted into the Korean War, thus keeping him eligible for an LDS mission. He served in the Tongan mission as a teacher missionary and district president from September 10, 1955 to May 10, 1958. Three months after returning from his mission, Verlyn Dale Frost married Carol Jean Gibson in the Mesa, Arizona temple, on September 5, 1955. They raised seven children.

Verlyn Dale Frost taught industrial education and driver education at Paradise Valley High School and Paradise Valley Community College near Phoenix, Arizona, for over thirty years. During some of this time, he served as the bishop of the Paradise Valley 2nd Ward. From 1996 to 1998, Verlyn Dale and Carol Jean Frost served a couple mission to the Tongan Islands, and then in 2004 served a church and family history mission in Salt Lake City, Utah. Frost died on October 29, 2009 at age 76.
